New Posting Schedule

Once again, my apologies for the lack of posts over the last couple of weeks.

Unfortunately, due to time constraints, this just can’t be helped.Ā  My doctor has ’suggested’ that I start exercising regularly.Ā  So I am now exercising 45 minutes per day.Ā  Of course, that was time that I used to use for blogging. :(Ā  Also, work has been rather hectic lately leaving me drained during the evening.

So my plan over the next while is to maintain my posting to 3 times per week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday).

On another note, I have been researching the various free stock screeners and I have not been impressed at all.Ā  Originally, I used a demo version of Stock Prospector.Ā Ā  Although there were some limitations (unable to screen on ROIC for one), it has been the best screener that I have tried to date.Ā  The other limitation is that you need a data source which comes from a pay site: BetterInvesting.Org.

If you have been watching some Rule #1 stocks, please let me know about them so that we can feature them in a post for the benefit of the whole community.

Thanks for reading Investment Jungle.

    try stockcentral.com

They are going to be the betterinvesting replacement company when betterinvesting goes bankrupt with in the next two years or so.

They have a screener and data. I am not sure how long the free trial is good for. I am on the one year trial for being a beta tester.

Have you tried MSN money’s deluxe screener? It has some really cool features and pretty much can extract a lot of data. ROIC is also one of the features that can be picked up.

    Stockcentral is good as well…

BTW, a very good site and you have assembled some good resources. Keep it up. I will surely buy you a beer…chill out :)

    Regards, OP

I don’t know what’s going on with Stockcentral. Here’s a link to a pic of their screener, that they maintain.

    http://www.stockcentral.com/tools/screener/tabid/152/language/en-US/Default.aspx

It doesn’t even appear to screen for ROIC. It just looks like another “me too” stock screener that is equivalent with or inferior to, e.g., MSN MoneyCentral Deluxe, which itself still isn’t even good enough for Rule #1 screening.

I ran the results of the VL screener through S2O and here are some candidates that don’t appear on your “My Rule #1 Stocks” list:

    NUE
    PCAR
    EXPD
    BEN
    ECA
    QCOM
    TSS
    FRK
    AEO
    SII
    ESC
    DHR
    XTO

Is your “My Rule #1 Stocks” list meant to be a list of stocks that satisfy the Rule #1 criteria? Or a list of Rule #1 stocks selling at or below MOS? Or a list of Rule #1 stocks that you actually own? I see that you’ve analyzed, e.g., AEO, and concluded it’s a Rule #1 stock, but you don’t have it in the list.

Any chance you could modify the list so that it shows the day’s closing price and the MOS price? I’m not sure there’s a lot of value in showing the the day’s price change. I could see posting the price change since recommendation, though.

    Hi Mr. Beantown,

Thanks for that list of potential Rule #1 companies. I will definitely have a look at them.

My list of Rule #1 stocks is a list of all the stocks that I have analyzed so far that meet the Rule #1 requirements. I see that I forgot to add AEO after I performed the analysis. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

The “My Rule #1 Stocks” is a plug-in that I have added. I am not sure that I could modify it in order to show the information as you have suggested. However, I am (and yes, I’ve promised this for months!) working on producing a watch list of the Rule #1 stocks that I have identified with their MOS price. Now that I have reduced the frequency of my posting, I hope to have more time to work on it.

As for the stock screener, you are right, it does not have ROIC. That is my biggest knock against it. But typically, ROE will be close (depending on the amount of debt). So I use ROE as a proxy.

    Thanks
    AJ

Always happy to help. You’ve been very generous with your time, and I hope that I can add value to your efforts.

On that note, the folks at Rule1Numbers.com are giving away for free a list of Rule #1 stocks that they generated last year. I think it’s a teaser for their commercial list of Rule #1 stocks, which I think they update monthly.

In that vein, I can usually find people selling lists of Rule #1 stocks on eBay, search for [”Rule #1″ (company, companies)].

I may take a shot at doing a Rule #1 analysis write-up in your style. If I did, would you consider posting it?
